A special weekend

Pietrasanta

For those you don’t know me that well, I thought I’d introduce you to two very special people in my life.  Obviously I’m talking about my children, Annabella & Joseph. We just had a special weekend together and I was thinking how proud I am that they are growing up so well. They make me laugh, they are beautifully mannered and I am so happy to be their mother.  That’s not to say that I am not experiencing the ‘joys’ of having a teenage daughter, (knowing it all, eyes rolling, hair flicking, vanity, first boyfriends etc…) or the obsession my son has with farts, not showering and all things military, (which I hate).  Their father and I separated a few years ago, and I feel they have come through it all really well, all things considering.  The hardest thing for me is that when I moved to Rome, Annabella & Joseph stayed in Pietrasanta living with their father.  Although this was an outcome that I never considered happening (and I can assure you it hasn’t been without many tears on my part), they are both very relaxed with their decision.  The funny thing is that often it is them reassuring me!  We see each other often, but as you can imagine it means I am travelling a lot on trains.

This weekend I went to stay with them as their grandmother on their father’s side passed away suddenly.  It’s funny how some life events can bring arguing family back together, heal emotional wounds, reaffirm strong bonds, and also end unhealthy friendships. All of that happened this weekend…. Not to forget also some wonderful catch ups with some special girlfriends. Add to that the sea air, sunshine and the medicinal hugs from my kids, I returned to Rome last night feeling very blessed.

Now….. can you believe that tomorrow is December!!!  Definitely time to start thinking about Christmas……….
